Finally I watched the movie 'Socha Na Tha'

When the movie was released on 2005, I was in the last few days of my college life. That time, I had a notion that I would not find the movie much interesting. Besides, it employed a new one from Deol khandhan, Abay Deol. And he does not have the good looks of our traditional heroes also. So, I skipped it that time. But when I watched his last year's release 'Manorama Six Feet Under', I decided to watch his other movies also. And Ayesha Takia is another reason, she portrays every character so well. I should really appreciate her work in the movie, Dor. Still, I did not find the opportunity to sit for this movie, mostly because the DVD shoppes in my locality in Bangalore did not have it in stock. Sometimes, I was in short of time to watch it in a movie channel. But, after coming to Japan, I got a chance to watch it(through broadband).
It's simple love story but with different approach. A rich father's son(Viren) goes to see an unparented girl(Aditi) to respect his father's(Mr. Overoi) words. But he tells the girl that he is in love with his girlfriend(Karen) of 3 years. Aditi does not mind this fact & the whole matter of rejection. On the other side, the two families get in a position of blaming eachother which has been ignited by Aditi's aunt. But that does not stop Aditi & Viren to become friends after they meet in a mall accidentally. Viren seeks Aditi's help to get the idea of how Karen thinks of Viren and all that. They go to Goa by lying the families. They share some good moments there. Once they come back from Goa, the problem starts again as Aditi's cousin brother catches her with Viren while Viren is discussing about Karen with Aditi. Aditi's family think that it is Viren who is trying to have a love affair with Aditi & call Mr. Overoi to control his son's activities. Viren tries to tell the truth but to no use. Then with one reaction from Mr. Overoi, Aditi's family stop discussing the issue as Mr. Overoi points out that it is not only his son's fault, Aditi is also trying to meet Viren and etc. Now, as this issue is over, Viren makes his family & Karen's family discuss about Viren & Karen's marriage. Initially, there seems to be a problem as they belong to different religions, Viren being Hindu & Karen, practicing Christian. But with the help of Viren's sistem-in-law, he finally manages to solve out the issue. But then oneday, his sister-in-law asks about the matter that she often finds Viren lost in memories of Aditi. Viren tries to get the answer and climbs to Aditi's room and asks her about the feeling. Though initially, Aditi denies of any such feeling to keep her words of being grateful to uncle & aunt who had taken care of her & wish to get her married to a person of their choice, she finally accepts that she is infact in love with Viren. Then Viren goes to his sister-in-law & tells her that he loves Aditi. This worsens the situation in his home. Viren runs out of his home when he finds out that Karen's family are coming to discuss with his father. He goes to Aditi's room again where he finds Aditi with her on-and-off boyfriend, Mahesh. Aditi tells him that she will marry Mahesh only. Viren leaves Aditi's house disheartened and goes to Karen's house to say them sorry for the mess and convey that he does not love Karen. Then he starts to live a responsible life by joining his father's business and eventually helps himself in forgetting everything about Aditi. He still joins his friends at parties where he meets Karen often. Then in climax, Karen goes to Aditi's home where everyone is busy with the engagement ceremony of Aditi's marriage to Mahesh. Karen tries to make Aditi understand the phase of life Viren is going through. Aditi's cousin sister listens to all these from behind the scene. Karen leaves Aditi after requesting her to not to do such injustice to Viren. Aditi's cousin sister comes to room & asks her to run away from the engagement & live her life with Viren. Aditi does so keeping all others unconscious about it. She goes to Viren and from there they elope from their families. And the story ends in a happily-ever-after note.
This movie, though being a family entertainer is less melodramatic & the debutant director, Imtiaz Ali had done a good job without showing any big emotional scene. It's not a traditional love story where boy & girl fall in love at first sight & then fight, rather it is a more practical approach to portray how they can fall in love in different way.
I liked this movie very much & it's a good entertainer for sure.
Viren is played by Abhay Deol.
Aditi is played Ayesha Takia.

Working in India

The day I started working in SRA India(Indian arm of Japan's Software Research Associates, Inc ), I never thought that I world become an onsite team member in just one and half years. Because, the branch was very small & it was very illogical for a novice like me to think of an onsite tour that time. But the fact was that they would make you do your work in almost Japanese style. The very first day I started coding in SRA India, I was told that the Japanese were simply put - perfectionists. This simple word had a very large inner meaning. The code that you wrote should be totally bug free, robust, modifiable without introducing regression etc. The first project I was assigned to, it took a hell lot days to prepare only the detailed design(Java Doc) for a very tiny function, every molecular level detail was described on that. But somehow I made myself adjusted to such work environment. My performance was good in my batch. And in one day, one of my managers told me of an onsite a...

Java collection series - miscellaneous

Java Vector is a legacy class. And it is significantly faster in comparison to a list obtained through Collections.synchronizedList(). Vector has loads of legacy operations and hence the manipulations in Vector needs to be done through the List interface, otherwise you won't be able to replace the implementation at a later time. Arrays.asList() is better choice if the list is of fixed size and any kind of size mutation of the collection results in UnsupportedOperationException. The underlying array is updated whenever the list is updated (or vice-versa), but the array reference isn't retained. Collections.nCopies() is another convenient mini-implementation which can be useful in two ways - initialize a newly created list with n null values (need not be only null values) -  new ArrayList (Collections.nCopies(1000, (Type)null)  grow an existing list -  lovablePets.addAll(Collections.nCopies(69, "fruit bat")) Collections.singleton()/Collectio...

DB transaction ACID properties

DB transaction is a combination of different operations. If not performed in a proper manner, different transactions working on the same data at the same time may leave the data in corrupted state, effecting the application. In this article, I am going to illustrate DB transaction ACID properties through an example of money transfer application between two different accounts A and B. To begin with, lets suppose that accounts A and B both have initial balance of $100. ACID stands for Atomicity , Consistency , Isolation and Durability . Let's try to understand these one by one. Atomicity : This is the property that mandates that if a transaction is started, either all the operations which are part of the transaction need to be completed by end of the transaction completion as a single unit of work or none of the operations needs to be completed. It is maintained by transaction management component. If a debit of $10 is made from account A, then the corresponding credit of $10 al...
