Cutting little bit of boredom from my life

It has been almost one and half months since my last post. To tell the truth, boredom has become a dominating part of my life at Nagoya. Yeah I know I have works to do in office, I have to prepare the meals, I have to wash my clothes myself, I have to do every single thing that I did not use to do back in India myself(except the office works). To gain a control over this boredom, I found only thing, I told my inner self - 'Sleep, sleep a lot Raj'! I din't have any other choice. The idiot box in my room always shows me the chat shows, base-ball matches. Oh, I hate these chat-shows. The gang of some non-sense Japanese always discuss some miserable topics, ranging from their daily life-style, how they take their doggys for a walk to every other thing that any sensible person will find less interesting. I really sometimes wonder whether these people have got any other work to do! Anyway, it seemed that boredom has gained the resistance over the sleep-pill also.
Though I am not a great fan of any kinda laptop, I had to go for one as I thought that it might help me to cut the boredom a little short. Then in one fine Tuesday morning, I was surprised to get a free Wifi hotspot in my room. Generally, it's very hard to find any such wireless internet zone in India, but it's Japan and this country has such an infrastructure that can easily deliver 50 Mbps speed over wired connections. OMG, I can not imagine that in India. Even my American coworker says that in US also, it's hard to imagine. But, the speed with this wifi connection is nearly 1 Mbps. Thanks to the person who has left this connection unsecured for which I can connect to it & download movies. So, it seems the lappy has become the messiah for me this time.

Java collection series - miscellaneous

Java Vector is a legacy class. And it is significantly faster in comparison to a list obtained through Collections.synchronizedList(). Vector has loads of legacy operations and hence the manipulations in Vector needs to be done through the List interface, otherwise you won't be able to replace the implementation at a later time. Arrays.asList() is better choice if the list is of fixed size and any kind of size mutation of the collection results in UnsupportedOperationException. The underlying array is updated whenever the list is updated (or vice-versa), but the array reference isn't retained. DB transaction is a combination of different operations. If not performed in a proper manner, different transactions working on the same data at the same time may leave the data in corrupted state, effecting the application. In this article, I am going to illustrate DB transaction ACID properties through an example of money transfer application between two different accounts A and B.
